Sketching Analysis

Learning Outcomes of the Assignment:

  • Employ appropriate visual and verbal architectural vocabulary when referring to building types, series, and periods

  • Show the appropriate sequence of historical periods and how they are represented architecturally.

  • Discover the way in which many varied factors contribute to the development of form.

Tasks:

We are required to conduct research and architectural analysis on a selected building. Each student will select FIVE (5) buildings from the given list. We may also choose their own historical buildings, subject to the agreement of the lecturer. The 5 periods of time in Architecture include Pre-Historic, Ancient Egypt, Ancient Greece and Rome, the Middle Ages and Renaissance, and The Age of Enlightenment. Students are to do their sketch analysis on A4-sized paper for the 5 different monuments and color them.

1. Lifelong Learning

By the end of the assignment, I learned how to extract important information from articles and videos and turn it into my own analysis.

2. Digital Literacy

As the project is an analysis report, I search on the internet for some references or information and acquired a huge amount of data and sketching techniques to complete the project.

3. Intrapersonal Skills

I was able to manage my time wisely in completing the project. I was able to manage my time appropriately as I needed to do sufficient research and produce 5 sketches of different buildings in a limited period of time.
