Comparative Analysis Report

Objectives of the Assignment:

  • To allow students to undertake a research comparative analysis process on Modern Malaysian architecture practices throughout history through literature review and document analysis and present an appropriate chronological account of the Malaysian architecture based on the understanding gained through the analysis procedure.

  • To familiarize students with the activities of culmination and production of a research analysis through assemblage, chronological indices and evaluation of information; composing and organization of study; assembly of illustration and text; design layout composition.

  • To introduce visual and critical thinking through learning from precedents with diagramming, and to introduce the basic principles of form, space, and order in the architectural design of Modern Malaysian architecture.

Learning Outcomes of the Assignment:

  • Employ appropriate visual and verbal architectural vocabulary when referring to building types, series, and periods.

  • Show the appropriate sequence of historical periods and how they are represented architecturally.

  • Discover the way in which many varied factors contribute to the development of form.

Tasks:

In a group of a maximum of 8 students per group. We were required to produce a comparative report booklet between 2 chosen local heritage buildings. The first outcome of the project will be an A4 sized illustrative chronology booklet (maximum of 25 pages) of Modern Malaysian Architecture (soft-copy) that interprets the Modern Malaysian Architectural language and architecture influences to the architectural development of Malaysia in particular.

1. Communication Skills

Due to the pandemic, we were limited to a virtual meeting. Nevertheless, we were still able to communicate without obstacles and brainstorm the ideas productively.

2. Digital Literacy

As the project is an analysis report, my team and I search on the internet for some references or information and acquired a huge amount of data and sketching techniques to complete the project.

3. Interpersonal Skills

Having been led by the group leader, we were assigned different roles and contributed to the final outcome of the project. I acknowledged the importance of leadership and teamwork.
