Project 2B
The Discovery Center (Janda Baik)
Students must create a structure for their final project that will enable users to learn more about the people, places, things to do, culture, history, etc. connected to kampung Janda Baik. It will serve as a discovery centre with interpretive displays that may include a walk-through historical or cultural journey exhibition that is similar to a museum, as well as interactive and engaging programming and places or spaces to connect with the residents and the local environment. All of this data must be converted into areas that call for poetic architecture.
The continuation of Project 2A and Project 1 is Project 2B. In Project 1, the formal and poetic articulation of architecture in a site-less or fictitious site situation was introduced and explored. Project 2a dealt with historical investigation and site evaluation as a catalyst for the Discovery Center's architectural growth. Last but not least, Project 2B's design brief requests an architectural approach to construct a discovery centre that emphasizes a strong engagement and relationship to the site, people's cultures, historical experiences, space constraints, and architectural context.
Final Presentation Board
Reflection
Discipline-specific knowledge, communication skills, and interpersonal skills make up the TCGP. By establishing connections with both the people and the setting in this project, I am able to delve deeper into the complex history of Janda Baik. Passive design techniques were used to introduce sustainability, and spaces were positioned expressly for particular purposes. Geometry and the altering factors of light and shadow, scale, and texture were used to produce poetic experiences in the discovery centre. I've acquired design skills through purposeful study of spatial typologies, the connections among plan parts, and the environment in tutorial sessions. With the help of the structural and environment workshop, I was able to address basic building construction, material, and environmental challenges. I can tell that the organization of my drawings, presentation boards, and design has much improved with the guidance and help of my tutor. I think this semester went well and I'm looking forward to learning more in the following semester.
