Assignment 1 (A)

Nature Journal

Earth is a 2007 nature documentary film that depicts the diversity of wild habitats and creatures across the planet. The film begins in the Arctic in January of one year and moves southward, concluding in Antarctica in December of the same year. Along the way, it features the journeys made by three particular species—the polar bear, African bush elephant, and humpback whale—to highlight the threats to their survival in the face of rapid environmental change.

Weekly Progress

For this assignment, we were given the task to watch a nature documentary "Earth" from 2007 and make a nature dialogue based on the documentary itself.

WEEK 1: I begin the assignment by watching the movie documentary and take down some notes on the floras, faunas, topography, and natural phenomena mentioned. Then, I started to do research on the internet and noted down all the details so that I can know what I wanted to touch on. After that, I did a rough sketch of the introduction pages and all the design layout on an A4 size paper.

WEEK 2: I tried to finish up my introduction part which has a total of three pages. I decided to use colour pencils as the colour medium for this assignment.

WEEK 3: I finished up two pages of flora and two pages of fauna. The animals I chose to talk about are Cheetah and Walrus. I chose to do snowdrops and bird's nest fern for the flora part of this journal.

WEEK 4: I did research and focused more on the natural setting/topography and natural phenomena. I tried to finish up this part as soon as possible so that I can proceed to do the favourite scene and reflection of this journal.

WEEK 5: I did some finishing touches to make sure that my journal is complete and perfect.

Lastly, I am so glad that I was able to complete this assignment in 5 weeks and submit my work right on time!

Outcome

I was able to complete my assignment on time and I'm satisfied with the outcome. This assignment taught me to appreciate nature and I also learned some drawing/sketching skills, learned to explore different colour mediums such as colour pencils and different layout styles so that the information is neatly arranged and clear to read. This is also the first time being exposed to architectural lettering.

3. Intrapersonal Skills

I have learned to manage myself, be self-reliant, and reflect on one's actions and learning from them. I learned that it is important to look back at my work from time to time before proceeding, as I will be able to help me find out what mistakes I have done in this journal so that I can always make things better and improve my journal before the submission deadline.
